Surface Design: Shadow Play with my Springer Spaniel

Taffy and Me!

On a beautiful fall day recently I was out for a walk with my English Springer Spaniel, Taffy.  I thought it would be fun to post a selfie of the two of us on Instagram.  Right. I had zero success getting us both in the square photo frame.  But I did notice that the late afternoon sun was creating some really fun shadows.  So here's a photo of our shadows!

The Spoonflower Handbook has instructions for making cloth hankies decorated with profiles of dogs. The shadow photos I took, with a green asphalt tennis court as the background, made a profile which didn't need any manipulation other than cropping.

I decided to print Taffy's profile on Kona® cotton to make cloth dinner napkins. At 18 x 18 inches, there are 4 napkins in each yard of fabric.  It's a great reminder of a fun afternoon!
